On Thursday, Jio Announced that they are withdrawing Summer surprise offer, which aimed to give Reliance Jio users with additional three month free service benefits. The company said that the announcement has been prompted by an “advise” from TRAI, the telecom industry regulator in India.
In a note Jio said that “Today, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has advised Jio to withdraw the 3 months complimentary benefits of JIO SUMMER SURPRISE.” Now Jio is in the process of fully complying with the regulator’s advice and had withdrawn three month complementary benefits.
On one hand, there is Jio who is trying to give benefits to customer free of cost, without worrying about profits. On the other hand we have Airtel, Idea, Vodafone who are creating all possible hurdles on the way of Jio so that these benefits don’t reach customers.
Reliance Jio has announced the Summer Surprise Offer on 31st March, under which Jio was offering free data, calls and SMS to those who will be registering for Prime membership with a recharge of Rs 303 between April 1 to April 15, 2017. Unfortunately competitors of Jio has filed a complaint against Jio to the Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India against Jio’s “Summer Surprise Offer”.
Bad news is that, TRAI has given its judgment in favor of competitors and asked Jio to withdraw its 15 day extension. Earlier, the last date of registration for Prime membership was April 15, but now the extension has been withdrawn and April 6 is the last day.
Those who have already applied for prime membership and made the recharge of Rs 303 will surely enjoy the free benefits of Summer Surprise Offer by Jio, but those who were thinking to register it before April 15 will not get that benefit. But it is stil not clear that how Summer Surprise Offer is not a violation. Hopefully in coming days it will be more clear.
